WVASPA Fall Drive-in Conference Tentative Schedule

9:00 a.m. Registration
9:30 a.m. Welcome: Keynote Speaker, Jamie Summerlin—Freedom Run USA & CamoToCap
Jamie will share his 100 day journey running across the United States to raise awareness for wounded veterans. He will also discuss CamoToCap, an organization based in Morgantown, WV that is focused on supporting veterans in higher education. Conference attendees will receive a free copy of Jamie’s book, Freedom Run.
10:30 a.m. Break
10:45 a.m. Best Practice Round Tables
Veterans Services: Further discussion with Jamie Summerlin on issues facing veterans as pursue higher education. Information on establishing services and partnering with community organizations.
Retention: An open discussion on retention of traditional and adult students. Institutions are encouraged to share ideas and services that has increased retention on their campuses.
Crisis Management: Individuals will discuss strategies for educating student affairs staff on crisis management. This will include: initial response, communications, and follow-up.

Senior Students Affairs Officers: Vice Presidents, Deans
Residence Life: Residence Life, Housing, Conference Services
Student Engagement: Student Activities, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Student Government, Student Leadership/Peer Mentor Programs
Student Support Services and Enrollment Management: This group will have additional break-outs for career services and academic advising, disability services, tutoring, international students, and other functional areas as necessary.
